Slow Cooker Brats get infused with flavor after cooking all day. This might be your new favorite way to make fork tender, juicy bratwurst!

- Servings: 5
Ingredients
- (1 package) Bratwurst
- (1 Tbs.) Oil of your choice
- (1 large) Onion
- (2 cloves) Garlic
- (16 oz.) Saurkraut, drained and rinsed
- (1) Apple, peeled and diced
- (12 oz.) Lager beer, Kombucha, peach carbonated water (your choice)!
- (2 Tbs.) Light Brown Sugar -optional-
- (1 Tbs.) Whole-grain Mustard
- (1/2 Tsp.) Caraway seeds
Directions
- Add 1 tablespoon oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add bratwurst and sear on all sides. This will take about 6 minutes. You just want them to be charred but not fully cooked (the slow cooker will do that).
- Remove the brats and set them aside on a plate. Then add 1 thinly sliced large onion to the skillet and cook until translucent and starting to brown (about 8 minutes or so).
- Mince 2 cloves of garlic and add to onions. Stir until fragrant (only about 30 seconds) then take the skillet off of the heat.
- Add remaining ingredients to a 6 quart slow cooker. Stir to combine.
- Add seared brats and onions with garlic mixture to slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours on low or 3-4 hours on high. It is recommended to cook on low for best flavor.
- Serve on buns or just plate it by itself! If you plan to serve as a spoonable dish, cut the brats into quarter chunks for easy spooning and sharing.
