Pork steaks have special, robust flavor that sets them apart from even the most delicious pork chop. When you slow cook them with seasonally fresh fruits, the mix is magical. Berries, peaches, and apricots top my list of recommended fruit to try. You’ll be dazzled! (Psst: this is a great way to use any bruised or not-so-perfect fruits from your harvest.)

Ingredients:

  • 4 Ramstead Ranch pork steaks
  • 1 large onion
  • 4-6 medium stone fruits (I suggest peaches or apricots. Adding any berries you have on hand is a great idea, too.)
  • 1 Tbsp garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • ½ Tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Tools:

Choose to use your crock pot or two 9x12 glass baking dishes for the oven.

Instructions:

  1. Slice onion, and pit and slice fruit
  2. Mix onions, fruits, and seasonings in a large bowl
  3. Layer mixture and pork steaks in your crock pot or glass baking dishes. Add 1 cup of water to prevent scorching.
  4. In your favorite slow cooker, crock pot or instant pot, treat this like a small roast. Cook on low (200°F degrees) for 6 hrs or high (350°F degrees) for 2 hrs.
  5. If cooking in the oven, bake at 250°F for 4 hrs.

Enjoy this recipe using any bruised or not-so-perfect fruit lingering in your kitchen.

Layer the fruits and veggies among the pork steaks and top with additional seasonings if you love the added flavor.

RECIPE: Quiche for All Occasions

I think quiche is underappreciated in American homes. It is a super flexible dish that you can eat hot out of the oven, cold on a picnic, or pretty much anywhere in between. It is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and can basically be stuffed with anything you have on hand and be delicious!

RECIPE: Ham Summer Salad

Looking for an easy way to keep wholesome protein on hand this summer? This fresh ham salad transforms pasture-raised smoked ham into a versatile meal that's ready whenever you are. Packed with protein and simple ingredients, it's delicious served on greens, tucked into a sandwich, or enjoyed as a quick snack. Best of all, it keeps your kitchen cool while delivering plenty of flavor.

RECIPE: Kabobs In The Broiler

Kabobs are an adventure! Entertaining to assemble, everyone can make their own to their exact preferences, and fun to eat. Kabob creation is a great way to break up the redundancy of fork and knife dinner time. And cooking options are flexible since kabobs are easy to grill outdoors or broil in the oven on a rainy day. Try switching it up by using lamb, pork, or chicken for variety.
